Screen Studio alternatives (Mac, Windows, free and paid)
Screen Studio is Mac-only. These alternatives run on Windows, cost less or are free — FocuSee, Cap, Tella, Screenity, OBS Studio and Loom, with platforms and prices checked.
Short answer: on Windows, try FocuSee (auto zoom, Windows and Mac) or Cap (open source, Windows, Mac and Linux). For free, start with Cap's free plan, the Screenity Chrome extension or OBS Studio. If you want a camera and an editor, Tella. If the video should live in code and be re-rendered, Remotion.

Why look for an alternative
Screen Studio describes itself as "the screen recorder for Mac that handles the hard parts" — zooms, motion, sound and framing. It is macOS only: its FAQ says "Currently, Screen Studio only supports macOS" and that there are no near-future plans to add Windows support. It costs $29 a month, or $9 a month billed yearly. The usual reasons to look elsewhere are a Windows machine, wanting something free, or wanting a camera track and an editor.

FocuSee
FocuSee calls itself an "AI-powered screen recorder with auto zoom effects", the closest match to Screen Studio's pitch. It supports Windows and macOS. Its store lists Standard at $19.99 a month or $49.99 a year for one computer, and Advanced at $24.99 a month, $79.99 a year, or $199.99 once for a lifetime licence covering up to five computers. The free trial lets you export one video; some AI features need credits.
Pick it if: you are on Windows and want the Screen Studio style of automatic zooms.
Cap
Cap is an open-source recorder; most of its code is AGPLv3 according to its GitHub repository. The download page offers macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel), Windows and Linux builds. The free plan covers personal use, including Studio Mode and 4K/60fps export, but not commercial use. Studio Mode's editor advertises automatic zoom from your recorded clicks, cursor smoothing and click effects, and custom backgrounds. The Desktop License is $29 a year or $58 once, and Cap Pro — cloud sharing, AI titles and transcripts — is $12 per user per month, or $8.16 billed annually.
Pick it if: you want a free or one-time-price recorder, or the source code.
Tella
Tella records screen, camera, microphone and system audio as separate tracks, and can automatically add layouts, backgrounds, zoom effects and subtitles. It runs on Mac, Windows, in the browser and as a Chrome extension, and exports up to 4K at 60fps. Pro is $13 and Premium $19 per user per month, billed annually; there is no free plan, though the FAQ mentions a trial.
Pick it if: you want yourself on camera next to the product and an editor to cut it.
Screenity
Screenity is a screen recorder and video editor. The recorder is a Chrome extension that is free and open source under GPLv3, with a cursor spotlight. The paid editor ($10 a month, or $120 a year, with a 7-day trial) turns your clicks into zooms you can retime or remove.
Pick it if: you only need to record browser tabs and want it free.
OBS Studio
OBS Studio is "free and open source software for video recording and live streaming", on Windows, macOS and Linux. It is a general recorder, not a demo polisher: you set up the scenes and do the zooms in an editor afterwards.
Pick it if: you need free, full control and do not mind editing separately.
Loom
Loom records screen and camera for async video messages, on Mac, Windows, iOS and Android. The free Starter plan allows 25 videos of up to five minutes at up to 720p; Business is $18 per user per month. It is built for sharing a quick explanation, not for a polished launch video.
Pick it if: the video is a message to a teammate or customer.
Or build the video in code
A recorder gives you a finished clip. If you would rather have the video in your repo — editable text, re-rendered each release — Remotion renders React components into a video. Its license is free for individuals, for-profit companies with up to three employees and non-profits; larger companies need a company license.
You can still start from a recording. snapcn (our library, so read with that in
mind) has a screen-recording scene that frames
a clip with a camera move and a cursor track, and
both install with npx shadcn@latest add @snapcn/<name>, copying the source into
your project. About 48 components are free under MIT. Recording in Cap or OBS and
finishing in Remotion is a reasonable free pipeline. The full walkthrough is
